Carolyn Burtt

‍ ‍

Carolyn graduated from SMU with a degree in Art Education (parents said, “If you major in Art, you have to get your certification so you’ll have something to fall back on.”). She taught for 23 years as an inner-city high school art and black and white 35 mm photography teacher. She still dabbles in photography, ceramics and experiments with other mediums as well.

Painting for Carolyn is fun and challenging. She tries to capture the pure Taos light with gouache on black paper, deciding whether to use dry brush or wetter paint to achieve the desired result. She paints portraits, landscapes, closeups of architecture, and whatever else strikes her mood.
