CJ Lucien

‘CJ’ Celesa Jane Lucien is that rare, energetic, entrepreneurial professional who has worked with creative success as an Artist, Instructor, Curator and Interior Decorator. “I’ve always known I was an artist, drawing all the time, I devoured art, craft and design books. I was always looking for new ideas or projects to make something.”

My special gift is, “ideaphoria”. (As tested by the Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation.) Life to me, is all about learning new ways of looking or doing things. Every moment of our lives we are absorbing new information and opportunities to synthesize the beauty of nature into creations of our own making. I grew up in Dallas, Texas in a household of artists, my mother was a vocalist, played saxophone, flute, clarinet and piano. My father was an Interior Designer for private aircraft including Faberge’s Learjet, President Nixon’s helicopter, and Sylvester Stallone’s bus.

Graduating WW Samuel High School mid term in the advanced arts programs at Skyline High School pilot program I explored all aspects of design.

From 1989 to 2004 While living in Taos I had worked 7 months as gallery Coordinator for the Taos Art Association registering over 1,500 artist members and coordinated monthly juried shows in the gallery. After leaving the TAA I co-owned La Puerta Azul a private art school and instructed for The Taos Institute of Art. I served two terms 1996 &1997 as President and Signature Member of the Taos National Society Of Watercolorists, helping to orchestrate shows at the Millicent Rogers Museum and The Taos Art Museum. In 1999 I won Best of Abstract at the Taos Fall Arts.

Intensive studies with Skip Lawrence, Fran Larsen, Katherine Liu, Alex Powers, Christopher Schink, Barbara S. Harmon and Ray Vinella have given me many tools in the toy box.

In January 2011 I curated “The Private Beauty Exhibit” for The Arts Council of Martin County, and won a Silver ADDY award for the shared design layout with McNichols and Associates for the postcard. In 2011 and 2012 I was asked to jury ARTFEST in Stuart, Florida. 2013 co-curated the “Inside Track” an Equestrian Exhibition for the Arts Council of Martin County.

Some past gallery representation includes: Rare Earth Gallery, Stuart, FL. Camille Pissarro Gallery, St Thomas, USVI. And various now forgotten galleries in Taos.

It is my hope to inspire people to use their imaginations, looking for beauty and patterns in nature to integrate Art into their Lives and Homes. We are all Artists, with a little guidance.
