Painting a landscape is like running along a mountain trail. there is an intimacy and understanding that builds from observing and interacting with each tree or couloir. Whether I am hiking through red deserts or painting alpine ridgelines, there is a conversation between me and the landscape that requires me to balance the detail and the vastness into one comprehensible experience.
My watercolors come with me on backpacking trips and trail runs. The medium is uniquely suited to such plein air pursuits. I work as a ski and bike patroller at Taos Ski Valley and find myself surrounded by alpine inspiration daily. I also grew up here in Taos and many of the landscapes I paint are places I have explored and loved my entire life.
